    Purge Pump Primer
The purge pump primer feature enables the user to prime the carburetor with fuel, enabling easier starting. The purge pump primer is designed in a way that the operator cannot flood the machine by priming the carburetor too many times. BG 50 is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 420.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy :( We are on our second Stihl blower. We bought the first one in 2012 and used it frequently with no issues until it gave out after Hurricane Irma last summer (2017). Fortunately, we were able to find one two days after the hurricane to help us with cleanup of yard debris. It worked well for a couple weeks. It then quit working, so we took it to the dealer and they said it needed a new carburetor. This has happened three more times during the last 10 months...FOUR CARBURETORS IN 10 MONTHS. My question...what changed between the 2012 blower and the 2017 blower and why can't the "issue" be corrected? We also have and use a Stihl chainsaw, pole saw and weed eater that we use frequently with no issues. Seems Stihl needs to correct the issue and provide exchanges for those of us with documented issues on our new blowers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Starts easily, runs great, good air movement, good value My only knock on this blower is if one relaxes while using it, the intake can be partially blocked by one's hip. This results in a slight increase in engine rpm and slight decrease in air output as the intake fan stalls. Not a big deal, just something to get used to

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Starts difficult and slow to warm up for for higher RPM's. After waiting for BG 50 warm up, it works fine for my needs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from hard starting blower works great once you get it started. Has always taken up to a dozen cranks to start. I have 2 stihl chain saws and a string trimmer. They always fire right up, even after sitting in storage. Dissappointed the blower is so hard to start.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Would not start after 2 months Had the BG 50 for 2 months and had to take it to the dealer i purchased it from since it quit starting, never seemed to start smooth always rough. Needed carb work. I think it has a weak airflow and the start up process is not something i like. Switch, trigger, choke, prime, pull, switch choke switch and pull again. I should have tried a better model but am stuck now. 2 stars at best.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable I purchased this item brand new two years ago, use the stihl recommended fuel and find very frustrating to start. When I finally get it running, as soon as i press the throttle the engine bogs out and dies. Then I have to pull it over another twenty times to get it running again. For the amount of times it has been used and the fact that its only used in my inner city back yard it shouldnt reqire any new parts or repair. Obviously looking at some of the other reviews, it appears this is a common issue I hope Stihl adresses. Until then I would not recommend the BG50.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 50 hours of use and will not run After no more than 50 hours of use the blower will not run. The dealer says it needs a new carburetor and says the bill will be cost nearly what I paid for the BG 50 new. And i fell for the double warranty when I bought it, hah! I always thought Stihl products were good, not in this case and service is terrible. This one will go in the trash and I'll buy another brand.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs poorly I bought this on April 2nd. The Bomgaars employee did the initial startup of the unit. It runs poorly when I start it until it warms up. I'm using Stihl Motomix fuel. I thought the problem would get better with time but it hasn't. I planned to take it back and discuss with store employee this weekend. I'm sure they'll make it right with me

Rated 1 out of 5 by from BG 50 Built To A Price? I bought this unit for the light weight and NOT because it was the least expensive blower in the line-up. I've had too many problems with it since new...beginning with hard starting, running and then sudden stopping, low air volume at the chute to name a few. I have other Stihl products that perform well, but this BG 50 is a big disappointment. Just to set the record straight....I only use premium (no alcohol) fuel with Stihl synthetic oil and do not let it set with fuel in the tank when stored. The spark plug and air filter is changed seasonally and the spark arrestor is also checked/cleaned annually.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lowest price and it shows I am a professional that uses Stihl products to make a living. I purchased this blower for my personal needs. I wanted a blower to leave at home to blow off my patio, front stoop and most importantly something my wife was able to use. The BG 50 was recommended by my dealer as it was lowest priced and the lightest which made it appealing for my wife. In the 8 months I have owned this blower it has been back to be repaired 4 times. Hard to start and running erratically is normal for this blower. Even after they tune the carb again and again you have to pull and pull and pull. Prime and choke. Feather the trigger and two hand it - run the trigger and momentarily hold the choke to warrm it up. Now, I can handle this start up sequence because I use gas powered equipment every single day of my life. This kind of operation is normal for a well used, older unit with high mileage. NOT a new under warranty product. Especially one with the Stihl name on the side. Therefore, this blower does not serve the purpose for which I purchased it. My wife can not figure out how to start it so she became frustrated and I take it to work bow to blow off driveways and walks after a mowing service. I fight the blower everyday and become ever more frustrated with the purchase as it does not perform the way you would expect a Stihl product to perform. I also feel like I do not want to burden my dealer with any more return warranty visits as it is a low quality item and I do not believe the problem can be solved. I would not recommend this item and I am disappointed that since it is the entry level machine that a lot of consumers new to the market will get a bad taste from the Stihl brand.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Only Stihl product I've ever had issues with Let me start by saying I have used Stihl products for years and I've been a dedicated owner of chainsaws (029 036 ms180) trimmers (FS85) and a back pack blower (BR550). So it actually pains me to write a negative review for a brand that I've been singing the praises for years. A change in my location has reduced the amount I use everything it also gave me reason to purchase this little gem. I can pick up any of my other Stihl power tools and they will start even after sitting for months. I use premixed fuel in a can from Stihl ever since the whole E10 thing started causing all of the well documented problems. The main reason I purchased it was so I could get the gutter attachment. When it starts and runs it has decent power and does all I ask of it. great for blowing off the lawnmower after use etc. etc. Again thats when it starts. Never really had an issue till after my first fall season. I'm a mechanic by trade and I'm familiar with proper maintenance procedures etc. I've replace filters and cleaned the carburetor. I get some use after maintenance and next time I attempt to start it it pushes my patience to its edge. Sometimes it will start and rev on the throttle and die other times it won't fire at all. Occasionally it will start and I'll get part way thru my chore and it will die and not restart. I can go out to my garage take my 25" bar 036 that is approaching 20 years old and has probably cut 100 cords of firewood and it will start within 3 pulls and perform without hesitation. same thing with the others. I will continue to be dedicated to Stihl and there won't be a lot of reason for me to purchase additional power equipment (other than replacing this thing). I will likely move up to a professional grade handheld blower and I'll take complete joy in smashing this frustrating thing. I certainly wouldn't pass it on to someone else. I want to say the issue must be in the design of the carburetor on this particular blower. I would think it was just my issue had I not viewed so many negative reviews for this same problem. Spend the extra money for a model higher up the chain I don't see quite so many complaints for this problem with other models

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product For Stihl's low end gas blower it has plenty of power. My previous blower stated 250 mph as it's wind speed so I was kind of concerned with the power of this unit. Don't be, it is every bit as strong if not stronger. Since it's new I can only assume that the Stihl name is synonymous with reliability and quality. Very happy so far.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Handy When I first got this blower it was very hard to start. After running a couple of tanks of mix through it, it’s become very easy to start. I’ve owned many Stihl products and this is as reliable as every other one. Whether a homeowner or professional, I highly recommend Stihl.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from A totaly disgusting product IN a short period of time I have owned this, it has been back to the dealer three times, two times to have the carburetor replaced. I use the $20.00 pre mixed fuel and keep everything clean. It has gotten impossible to start, What a joke of a blower. and a fraud perpetuated upon the buyer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. The power is very very good. raw power. I am very Happy. Spent 7 months looking for the right blower. I studied the engine sizes. and I ended up getting the bg50. when I had other weed eaters. I was happy, but when I tried a stihl string trimmer, there was no going back. I love thier string trimmers. and the same is with this blower. it has a lot of power. other brands have smaller motors or even some with a bigger motor, but this one is better. its stihl quality. the engine sounds awesome. and I do a lot of mechanic work. the first time I gutted a stihl weed eater, I liked it. and when I first herd her start up. I love these tools. this blower is awesome. and very cheap.....I got excatly what I wanted. more power than my other orange company. Oh yeah, this is extremely light. extremely light. pull the throttle and the air pushes your hand back. it has that much power. and very very very very light.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from After 1 & 1/2 years have problems starting The product is fine when it starts, however it doesn’t start so it is basically worthless. It’s 2 years old now and it started acting up after a year and a half. Yes I’ve checked the gas and changed plugs but still no start.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from service abuse I've written four negative reviews about the abuse by stihl authorized servicing dealer. All of my reviews have been censored. I used no profanity. The strongest word I used is stinking. stihl doesn't like the word stinking followed by stihl, so they forced a re-write. I said the diagnosis fee is more than my BG50, (still under warranty), is more than the blower is worth.I talked about the lack of people skills the dealer had located on Southern Blvd., nope, can't say that. Lets see if they let me say buyer beware.I contacted customer service, Shawn said its out of his hand.
